What We Do
High-Rise Avenue is a production company and the rebirth of Writers Avenue, led by producer Sandra Thompson-Quartey.
We produce exciting new theatre shows that depict an authentic and rounded representation of culturally diverse communities with the view to adapt them for the screen.
We cultivate the collaboration of exceptionally talented creatives and performers to tell original stories that provoke thought and bold stories that explore the multifaceted experiences of culturally diverse people.
Our work is dedicated to championing and supporting exciting diverse emerging and established talent from Back, Asian, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, Latino and Indigenous backgrounds and advocating for better representation.
Sandra Thompson-Quartey founded Writers Avenue in 2010 to discover, nurture and champion new writers and provide opportunities to showcase their talent.
The company became popular for The First 20 Minutes competition, which allowed new writers to test their work at various stages of development and showcase its potential of full production, in a supportive environment and industry showcases for directors, writers and actors from all backgrounds. The shows took place at Soho Theatre and The Plesance in the main spaces and regularly attracted leading casting directors, producers, agents and organisations such as the BBC. Writers Avenue received support from Soho Theatre, Talawa and London Bubble Theatre.
The company took a hiatus in 2016 until 2019 to restructure and relaunched in 2020 as High-Rise Avenue to reflect the evolution of the company.
